At Bushland, your family is our family
The management and staff of Bushland Health Group (BHG) believe that care of the aged is a specialty in its own right, delivering high quality care professionally and with compassion, understanding and integrity. We believe that each Resident has unique biological, psychological, social and spiritual needs and the right to choose how those needs are met, thus enabling them to live their lives to the fullest and as independently as possible. We are a locally owned and operated not for profit organisation.
BHG provides quality retirement living & aged care in the Manning Valley which includes residential aged care homes, Alkira Lodge and Karingal Gardens in Taree and Banyula Lodge in Old Bar. Alkira Lodge (formerly known as Bushland Place) currently caters for 89 residents, with 49 rooms in mainstream being fully refurbished over the past few years. All rooms have their own ensuite. Karingal Gardens caters for 100 residents and has a mix of shared bathrooms and single rooms with ensuite. Banyula Lodge presently caters for 80 residents and has an additional 14 rooms under construction.
Aged Care Services is one of the fastest growing, and rapidly developing, industries in Australia providing secure employment opportunities with structured career pathways. Working in Aged Care can be appealing as it can be complex and challenging and should not be considered any less than acute care. Staff develop good relationships with residents and their families – your family is our family. It is this connection that makes the care being provided to your loved one exceptional. We treat your family member how we would like our own family member to be cared for.
BHG has a professional team that includes our Executive Care Manager (ECM), Clinical Care Managers (CM), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Nurse Educator (NE), Registered & Enrolled Nurses, and Care, Leisure & Lifestyle, Hotel Service, Admin and Maintenance staff. From the time you first make contact with us to the end of your time with us, we will work with you to ensure that you are appropriately supported and receive quality care throughout. We have 24/7 Registered Nurse coverage at all 3 homes. Our Nurse Practitioner works very closely with local doctors and specialists.
Covid-19 has brought many challenges with reduced visitation and at times no visitors being allowed. Window visits, phone and video calls at times substituted for face to face visits, all to ensure our residents safety and maintain Public Health Orders. It has been a difficult 21 months for residents, family members, visitors, and staff. We are all learning to live with these changed conditions and ensure that the safety control measures in place keep everyone safe.
BHG recognises the importance of investing in the future of the industry and developing first class clinicians and leaders who specialise in caring for older people. It is through this vision that partnerships have been formed with many education institutions to not only attract new staff but also support our current staff. All three homes host student placements and 2021 has seen the introduction of a First Year RN / New Registered Nurse Transition to Practice Program. This innovative program has been designed to support and mentor newly graduated nurses who are transitioning to work to become confident, safe, competent, and professional practitioners. The program is focused on supporting these staff to become the best aged care nurse they can be. Experience is gained across various areas of the aged care services /sector. We support staff in their career progression and goals. We have had staff start in Hotels services and progress through to do their Registered Nursing. The opportunities can be limitless when working with BHG.
